Marmijn van de Vate is the artist behind Atelier KØNCEPT. She was born in Castricum, The Netherlands, and educated in Utrecht (HKU) and Amsterdam (Gerrit Rietveld academy). Her ever-present interest in architecture and design has created a fascination for elementary shapes.

In this increasingly complex society she looks for simplicity. This is reflected in her work through the modesty of shape and colour and the choice of composition. Marmijn gets her inspiration from her love for minimalism, mid-century art and design.

An interesting side note: Craft and sustainability are very important to Marmijn. She works with unbleached canvas, so no chemicals are used. That is why the canvas has a nice warm colour instead of sterile white. She washes and irons them, before tightening them herself.
